Hi everyone! I’m Kari, the Database Manager here at the RPO. My husband and I got married in June of 2018, so this is our 2nd Thanksgiving being married, and it’s exciting to create new traditions for our little family. For 2019, we decided to skip the long drive home, and will be celebrating with a mini Thanksgiving of our own, with our two cats. This year, we’ve decided to make turkey meatballs instead of the traditional turkey, along with most of the traditional sides: stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows (my favorite), and green bean casserole (my husband’s favorite). Even as the days are getting shorter and colder, we try to find a few minutes to be outdoors each day. Our activity of choice for Thanksgiving is the Feast of Burden run in downtown Rochester. I’ll be running the 2-mile race, and my husband will be running the 5-mile option. This time of year, we also like to re-watch all of the Harry Potter movies, so we will have those on in the background throughout the day.
Outside of Thanksgiving Day, I’ll be teaching a calligraphy on ornaments class at the Rochester Brainery earlier in the week. For this class, attendees will learn how to create a simple calligraphy alphabet and then decorate ornaments to keep or give as gifts this holiday season. I’ve been teaching calligraphy at the Brainery for the past two years, and I am super excited about this new holiday themed class this year.
