Warner Brothers released on Sunday the latest trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 (WW84). The sequel to the smash hit Wonder Woman, stars Gal Gadot reprising her role as DC lead heroine and Amazon princess/demi-goddess. It also sees the return of Chris Pine as love interest, Steve Trevor, and welcomes Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord, and Rochester native Kristen Wiig in the role of Cheetah.

Costumes aside, we also love the nostalgic tunes. The trailer reaches into the cultural memory of 80s music with an instrumental remix of New Order’s “Blue Monday.” The bass and moody chord progressions set the tone for a rad (yeah, we went there) setting, with scenes depicting Diana fighting in a shopping mall (an 80s hallmark); walking into a gala; reuniting with Steve Trevor, and dodging bullets in a new suit.

Released in 1983, “Blue Monday” became a commercial hit and, perhaps, a defining composition of 80s pop music. The synth-pop beats are similar to late-70s disco-pop such as Donna Summer’s “Our Love” and Sylvester’s “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real).” A disco invention not only made the song popular but forever changed pop music.
