Message from the CEO

Seasons Greetings! This time of year allows us to welcome family and friends across our art-loving region and is a reminder to be thankful for what we have, cherish our loved ones, and look to the future with hope and inspiration.

We were thrilled to learn in late November that your RPO was nominated for two GRAMMY Awards. American Rapture has been placed in two Classical categories for Best Classical Instrumental Solo and Best Classical Contemporary Composition. It’s always a joy to attend concerts and see the love of our audiences first-hand. To now see that admiration on a national stage is even better. A huge congratulations to soloist Yolanda Kondonassis, composer Jennifer Higdon, our very own Ward Stare and our talented musicians for this accolade – bravo!

The joy of giving gifts to loved ones would bring a smile to anyone’s face. We hope you will consider giving the gift of music this year by donating to your RPO. Through donations like yours, we can provide free music enrichment programs. With your help, your RPO can undoubtedly bring smiles to neighbors across our art-loving region.

Have a happy holiday and a happy new year.

Bach to Bartók

CITY Newspaper‘s David Raymond wrote in his review, “Stare and the orchestra really cut loose for this and put on an exciting show, from elegantly turned woodwind solos and duets to passionate, massed-strings sound.” On November 7 & 9, audiences welcomed violinist Tessa Lark in her RPO debut in Berg’s Violin Concerto. The program also featured the expressionist movement of Schoenberg’s Five Pieces for Orchestra, and Bach’s Ricercar No. 2 from Musical Offering.

America the Beautiful: Patriotic Pops

On November 15 & 16, the RPO welcomed the men and women of the United States Naval Academy Glee Club for an evening of rousing patriotic tunes and marches. Among them included Rochester native, Midshipman 1st Class Alex Kieffer. Click here to watch a video with Alex as he discusses his upbringing.

JoAnn Falletta + Symphonie Fantastique

On November 21 & 23, we welcomed guest conductor JoAnn Falletta for two nights of imaginative music! The program included Christopher Rouse’s Flute Concerto. The first performance here in Rochester since his untimely death in September, Principal Flute Rebecca Gilbert (The Charlotte Whitney Chair, funded in perpetuity) dedicated her Rouse performance to the work of the ROC Restorative program in the Rochester City School District.
