This week we feature our fabulous trombonist, Lisa Albrecht! 🤩 Raised down the road in Phelps, NY, Lisa has held positions with orchestras all over the country, from Honolulu Symphony to the New York Philharmonic, before joining the RPO family in 2009. Her recent album, Sound & Resound, features some incredible solo performances with organist Amanda Mole. Click here to listen to it on Amazon!
Q&A with Lisa
𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐞? One day, in fifth grade, we all lined up to pick out our instruments…I was the last kid in line because I couldn’t decide what I wanted to play (all the instruments looked so good!) By the time I got to the front, they basically begged me to try the trombone because they didn’t have enough of them in the band. It all worked out in the end!
𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬? Cooking, sketching, gardening, and spending time with friends & family. I’m a big hockey fan (Let’s Go Amerks!) and can often be spotted at the Blue Cross Arena, chomping on a Zweigel’s with RPO bassist Fred Dole 🌭
𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫/𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤? I’m a big opera fan and a true Wagnerite – and even though I’ve been to the Bayreuth Festival and seen the Ring Cycle numerous times, I’d still choose Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier as my favorite piece. His gorgeous harmonies and lyricism just sweep me off my feet, every time 🎶
𝐇𝐨𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬? I’m an avid hiker & canoeist, an Adirondack 46er, and a licensed NY State Wilderness guide. I love to travel and climb things and have summited peaks in the Andes, hiked along China’s Great Wall, and walked Japan’s Kumano Kodo route….Last year I fulfilled a dream by cycling the Erie Canal Pathway from Buffalo to Albany, through the heart of beautiful New York State. 🚵🏻♀️
𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭: I also love to arrange music for brass ensembles and I manage a group called Oktoberbones – you can find us at a beer garden or fall festival near you! 🍻
